A prayer for grief
There's no right way to pray when someone you love has died. Cry. Sit in silence. Say their name. If you have no words of your own, borrow these.
The prayer
Father, [name] is gone and I don't know how to do this. The house is too quiet. I keep reaching for my phone to tell them something.
Stay with me. Sit with me in the quiet. Catch the tears You said You would one day wipe away.
Hold the memories I'm scared of losing. Give me the strength for the small things: the phone calls, the paperwork, getting out of bed. Send people who will let me talk about [name] without changing the subject.
You walked through the valley of the shadow of death too. Walk through mine with me. And keep [name] safe with You until I see them again. Amen.
